Life Skills

At the end of last year we were asked to fill out a survey of things that are important to us regarding Sam's education. Todd and I both feel that a more functional education is important for Sam. We'd rather see that he knows how to shop for groceries rather than know about the Great Wall of China.

Sam's teacher asked for a list of things that Sam needs help with and we came up with this list:

getting his own meds in pill box
hygiene
phone manners/use
$$$
banking
washing/drying clothes
kitchen safety/cooking
work on interrupting others
transitions
personal space
table manners
doing what he's been asked to do w/o having to ask multiple times
anger management
appropriate conversation techniques

These are just a few of the many things that Sam needs to learn in order to function as an adult in the world. We are excited that part of his week will be spent working on things that are most important to him.

His teacher sent this video of what they've been working on:

We've got a long way to go...

Your video isn't showing up on my computer :( but let me just say, I think I need to sign my 14 year old up for functional skills. My list would be the same!
