Camp Drummond

Mrs. Drummond mentioned before school ended that she would love to have Sam spend a couple of nights at her house to help Sam "practice" for Camp TBI.  I happily accepted her offer!

Camp Drummond was scheduled for Sunday, July 16 - Tuesday, July 18th.

It didn't take much convincing for Sam to go since he loves the Drummond family and he was looking forward to it.  Mrs. D. sent a text on Saturday afternoon asking if Sam could come one day early so that he could attend Cal's basketball game.  An extra day?  Of course!

I met Shelley at CWA and she and Matt took him home with them.

I'm so grateful to have such wonderful support from Sam's school.  They all love him so much and treat him like he is one of theirs.  It's truly a blessing that Sam is part of the CWA family!

Thursdays

I love Sam's school for many reasons but mainly for the teachers and staff.  Sam has been at ClearWater Academy for 5 years now and we love it.  Sam's Social & Emotional teacher, Mrs. Huber, sent me a text asking if Sam could go to her son's college baseball game on a Saturday.  We met in Carrollton and she took Sam with her to the ball field.  Sam got to watch the game, meet the players, get an autographed ball and hand out snacks to the players.  Sam loves spending time with her and her family.  They love him like he's their own.
Nolan is a freshman in college and every Thursday for the past year Sam gets to call him and chat if he's been cooperative and good that day.  Every Thursday Nolan, who I am sure is busy with classes, practice and being a teenager, takes time out of his schedule to talk to Sam.  Every Thursday.  It is a special day for both guys.
Nolan had to give a speech in one of his classes and he chose Sam to be his topic.  I wish I could have been there to listen to what he said but I'm pretty sure he mentioned Thursdays.
Thanks to the Huber family for loving Sam & for making his life even more special.

 This just in...
Mrs. H. sent me this post off of Nolan's instagram...isn't that sweet!

Together again

I got an email from a friend who used to live in the ward.

She invited us to her house for lunch along with some other friends to see our mutual friend, Mindy, who was in town from Idaho.  It's been about 7 years since we've seen Mindy so I was really excited.

It was so fun to get caught up with each other.  It was like we'd never spent time apart.  I love having friends like that.  I'd say it's time for a girls weekend!

Tea Time

My good friends, Jennifer & Cindy, asked if they could put together a little party for my 40th with some other friends.  I didn't want them to go to too much trouble but said yes any way.

We scheduled it after we got back from NYC and as I went to Cindy's door, I knocked and she answered it in a cute red dress, a wig, and a fancy hat.

What in the world?

Jennifer was also dressed up.  Where in the invitation did it say dress up for a tea party?  Well, it was there, just not on my evite.

The table was decorated so cute!  Cindy did an amazing job.  Jennifer put together all the food, including desserts!  I had some friends come, all dressed up for tea...Pam, Thomasyn, Jacki and Marilyn.

It was so fun to open gifts, shed a few tears, eat some yummy food and enjoy fabulous company.  I'm truly blessed with wonderful friends.

I think 40 will be just fine....

Summer Beach Trip

I planned a summer beach trip with another family (the Moore's) and we went July 22-July 30th.

We had a great time and it's nice to have friends for the kids.  We enjoyed a lot of beach time, pool time, food time, TV time, club time, doing nothing time.

We were quite successful at all of the endeavors listed above.

Here's a little video of our trip.  I will say that I was not good at taking photos this time around.

Upon leaving the beach, Todd, the kids and I went to Savannah (the first time for me and kids) so Todd could meet with some customers for lunch.  The kids & I had lunch at a darling place, Soho South Cafe.  We wandered the streets a bit then headed home.  It was a great trip with some great friends!

A Lovely Weekend

It was the 3rd Annual Girls Trip to the beach last weekend and how sweet it was. This year I decided to take a smaller group so that we can all be in on the same conversation and I think it went really well.

This year I invited Jennifer, Teresa and Kathryn. Unfortunately, Kathryn couldn't attend at the last minute and we missed her.

The three of us left on Wednesday night at 8:15pm and headed south. We made our first stop in Savannah to use the gross bathroom and grab a Diet Coke. The best part of our stop was the awesome transvestite that came into the store for a sandwich and condiments. He/She was wearing a pink summer dress with matching lipstick and some white heels. He/she would have looked better if he would have shaved his legs. It. Was. AWESOME! The only problem was that Teresa, who was our photographer did NOT get a photo. What a wonderful start to our weekend.

We arrived at the house at 2:15am, found our beds and went to sleep for a bit. I hardly slept because one of the smoke alarms was chirping & my particular bed was not comfortable. I ended up getting up around 7:30am, dressed in one of my 7 bathing suits and laid on the couch and watched TV.

We had a quiet morning, packed our bags and grabbed chairs and boogie boards and walked out to the beach. We kept checking the clouds and they were gray and moving quickly. After about 15 minutes, we felt a drop & we decided to pack it all back up and went back to the house. We sat under the deck and watched the storm that moved in. Once the storm passed, we decided we were hungry and had a gift certificate for T-Rays and we went out for lunch.

T-Rays is a tiny little burger joint that was a former gas station. It was awesome and the burgers, fries and corn nuggets were delish. We then decided it was pool/ocean time so back to the house for pretty much "nothing" and we were good at it. We were able to float in the ocean and enjoy the warm water.

I do believe that the entire trip was based on food and we made the best of it. On Thursday night we went to Wal-mart Sushi (aka Kabuki) and enjoyed some Will-prepared sushi. We then hit the Wal-mart to find some treasures. Most evenings were spent chatting in our jammies and watching some sort of cooking show & eating M&Ms by the handful.

Friday we were up a bit earlier and Teresa and I went for a beach walk. You can't beat exercising on the beach. We spent time at the beach and at the pool & had gourmet PB&J for lunch. We then decided to go to some little shops near the house and to the antique store then back to the house. We relaxed, got cleaned up and pretty and went downtown to check out the shops and had dinner at 29 South. Pure heaven. Jennifer & I split the pork chop while Teresa got the scallops. We shared 2 appetizers; fried green tomatoes and a crostini and one dessert; krispie kreme donut bread pudding. It's just as good as you can imagine and then add coffee ice cream. Oh boy!

Saturday offered us yet another day of nothingness! We decided to spend the day at The Ocean Club where we were with very few people. We sat by the pool, read magazines, chatted, had lunch, hit the beach, tried to boogie board in the rough current, showered and enjoyed a pina colada. It was a rough 5 hours.

We came back to the house, dressed for dinner and went back downtown to hit a couple of shops that were closed the day before then had a lite dinner at Cafe Karibo. Yum. Back to the house for jammies, M&Ms and TV. It was pretty tough.

The weekend goes by way too fast but we had such a great time and are grateful for our husbands for handling things at home so we could enjoy our time. Many thanks again to my sweet in-laws who are so generous in letting us borrow their beautiful beach house.

Til next time...
