Elf on the loose

There is nothing but mischief going on around here. Abby keeps talking about having an elf show up and since Todd & I are not really familiar with this tradition, Abby went ahead and wrote a letter to Santa, set out some graham crackers and some water for some sort of magical elf that she was sure would show up.

Here's the letter she composed:

It seems that we need to discuss race relations with Abby!
(apparently the "black" elf is much more mischievous than his "white" counterpart-she was referring to the clothing she thought would be black)

Here is the letter that Abby got last night from Harold, the elf. He did cause some problems by putting the unsavory graham crackers in the cup of water making a fine mess.

Abby then woke up this morning with this problem...

Harold apparently is NOT fond of Abby's current elf, Buddy

Later on this afternoon, Harold really did a number on Buddy. He tied him up, taped his mouth and put him in the box of the unsavory graham crackers.

Todd wondered about some cinnamon flavored grahams that were left on the counter so he had Abby go check on that box in the basement and low and behold, what was in the box?

Abby's new black elf!

I'm sure more mischief will happen around here until Christmas...

Following Through

I knew this day would come. The day that I'd have to follow through on my threat. I try to make my threats scary enough that I won't have to follow through but it had to be done.

I changed Sam's PT appoinment (he chose morning vs. afternoon) to 8:30am to get it over with. He wasn't too cooperative prior to leaving so I was hoping it wouldn't carry over but it did.

Sam refused to get out of the car.
He ran down the sidewalk of the office building.
He screamed and carried on.
I dragged him into the office and he hid behind a bench.
He hit & kicked & spit.

Nice.

His therapist, Christy, and I tried our best to get him to calm down and go back but he wasn't having any of it. I gave him two choices: doing your therapy or go home and spend the day in your room. He chose neither.

I chose.

I got him in the car and silently drove a different way. I drove straight to the police department; the same place we took cupcakes two days prior.

I got Abby out of the car and left him and walked into the office. I spoke, through tears, to the office lady and she found an officer to come help me. We waited and kept our distance from the drunk guy that was being released from jail. Sweet. Poor Abby, in her pjs at the police department at 9am on her vacation.

Officer Morris pulled up asked what I needed and I explained my situation and how I had already had a meeting with Chief Womack & Officer Shaw. He then said, "I also have a child with special needs. He's 6, he was born 12 weeks early, he has CP and I've had to restrain him while he bites and scratches." I knew he was meant to be there today. He asked me what I thought he should do or say. Did I want him to take Sam out and put him into a holding cell for a few minutes? I told him to use his judgement.

He crossed the street and I unlocked the van door and he chatted with Sam. He was ready and willing to help Sam understand that what he was doing was not acceptable. After about 10 minutes, he called me over to let me know what they had discussed. I think Officer Morris scared the sh** out of him by just opening the door and being in a uniform and that's what he needed: a "friendly" reminder.

I hope Sam now understands that when mom says she'll do something, she WILL follow through.

Lesson learned.

At least today.

Thanks Officer Morris

Service Sunday

We had family in town last month and spent our "Service Sunday" together so this month we are back to our regular routine.

I decided to make a treat for the Douglasville Police Department to thank them for all they do.
I made some pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and they are quite tasty.

Notice I left out the "s" in blessings but I fixed it before we dropped them off

Instead of coffee and doughnuts they get coffee and pumpkin cupcakes today

We talked to this officer (I can't even recall his name) and they were excited to have a treat
for the next shift coming into work.

Many thanks to the men & women of the police department for keeping us safe!

Halloween 2010

As you can see, I am way behind on my blogging but I blame my friend Jennifer because she had a photo I needed and she used the excuse of "I have vertigo" for not responding to my email.

So...we had a nice Halloween. The weather was fantastic and since Halloween fell on a Sunday, most kids stopped trick-or-treating at 8:30pm.

Abby made her costume. She was an Indian Girl and Sam was nothing but we threw this lovely costume together 3 minutes before he went out. He's a very casual reporter. Not sure how many reporters wear Crocs but this one did.

Todd and I were MiB agents. Thanks to my High School friend Lavinia for the idea. Notice my cool black suit? It's Sam's. It's nice to know we can share clothes and shoes.

Drug-Free?

Well, it's official, I have taken Sam off all his mind-altering drugs...namely Abilify & Prozac. Whether this was a good idea or not (his psychiatrist thought his Prozac dosage should be increased) I wanted to give it a try.

Here's hoping for a drug-free future for Sam
(his mother's drug-free future is still uncertain at this point)
